Winning Designs for The Design Project Naija 2022

TDPN is a design and illustration competition created by acclaimed Nigerian Fashion Illustrator and founder of The Fashion Collective, Omonigho Aito-Imonah, in collaboration with Sara Maino, The Head of Special Projects for Vogue Italia.

The 2022 edition saw the celebration of African prints, fabrics and embellishment techniques in the reimagined collections of select designers.

If I Did a Collaboration With Balenciaga

Inspired by the seemingly post-apocalyptic style of Demna's Balenciaga, combined with the rich and colourful nature of Akwete fabrics, the earthy tones of coral beads and multi-coloured cowries, this youthful capsule collection was created.

If I Did a Collaboration With Gucci

Using A'nger, a striped black and white fabric native to the Tiv tribe of Nigeria, these reimagined Gucci looks were created embracing femininity and luxury.

Coloured and printed cowrie shells are introduced into the design of the accessories to give a playful, yet traditional look to the signature Gucci accessories.

If I Did a Collaboration With Balmain

Colourful Ankara wax prints and strings of red and blue coral beads elevate these Balmain looks.

If I Did a Collaboration With Bottega Veneta

This mini collection features a marriage between Bottega veneta's silhouettes and customized Ankara applique.
